JOB DESCRIPTION – Director of Children’s Ministry (For Hire)

Summary

The Director of Children’s Ministry should be a disciple of Christ, committed to teach children of God’s love and grace through scripture. The director should possess strong interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills. Under the direct supervision of the pastor, the director will be developing lessons and activities for children from birth to 6th grade. This position requires a person who is willing to be committed to creative ways of children’s ministry and caring for the children, volunteers and the families.

Responsibilities:

Fostering safe, inviting and engaging ministry environments for children year-round on Sunday mornings and other times when programming and/or ministry occurs.

Recruiting, training, equipping, nurturing and expressing appreciation for those who teach and/or lead others in discipleship formation.

Together with pastor and other children’s ministry coordinator, create and prepare weekly lesson plan, craft and activities for children and train volunteers to assist on Sundays. An outside curriculum is used.

Responsible that children programming is compliant to Safe Gatherings policies.

Evaluating and selecting, with the pastor, curriculum that promotes key values such as biblical literacy, community, mission, evangelism, outreach, service and love/care of God and neighbor.

Overseeing the coordination of Children’s Sunday School and other yearly events (Easter Event, Vacation Bible School (VBS), Halloween Event, and Christmas pageant).

Welcoming, following up with, connecting and resourcing children and their families who are new to or already affiliated with Milton United Methodist Church.

Participating in staff meetings and check-ins with the Pastor.

Maintaining ministry files and all documentation pertaining to children and the volunteers who work with them.

Advertising, communicating and promoting children’s ministry offerings to the congregation and larger community through a variety of mediums including social media.

Preparing and following an annual budget for children’s ministries, along with maintaining and ordering supplies and equipment for ministry use.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or degree in progress. Completed coursework in child development or education preferred. Degree in progress for education, child development, ministry and theology majors is acceptable. Volunteer experience with programs for kindergarten through 12th grade in church or other non-profit organizations. Work experience as church staff position or intern preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills that build rapport with people across all ages and backgrounds. Ability to plan and implement new ways to reach and engage children in the church.

Time Commitment:
Approximately 6 hrs/week (27 Weeks – Biweekly)
Sundays – 8:30AM-11:30AM
Preparation day – between 8:30AM-11:30AM on agreed upon date with pastor.
Weeks leading up to special events (Easter Event, Vacation Bible School (VBS), Halloween Event, and Christmas pageant) will be compensated for more hours to be agreed upon ahead of time.
Additional hours and work is available depending on commitment and skillset of applicant.
