Make followers of Jesus in Milton and the surrounding areas
Our mission is simple: Make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything Jesus has commanded us.
We are called to make followers of the Way that is Jesus Christ (John 14:6)
Invite people into the faith community (Acts 2:38)
Teach people what Jesus actually says so that we can put them into practice (Matthew 7:24)
We want to help people have a relationship with Jesus wherever they are in their faith journey
Our vision is to help the people we know, love and praying for have a deeper relationship with Jesus. We offer a “traditional” worship service for those who like the worshiping our Lord the good ol’ fashioned way, singing hymns and reciting the liturgy that has been in place for many years. God has blessed us with a new movement within the church to rethink and recover the church described in the book of Acts. The Vine Collective is a group of people who try to follow Christ. We are ever changing as the Spirit is leading us. If you are like many of us in the community and have a thirst to try be a part of a non-derivative expression of a faith community, you are encouraged to check us out.
What about controversial topics?
The Wisconsin Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church believes in a “big tent” philosophy. That means that there can be a wide range of how God’s grace is applied in practice. In line with the Christian beliefs of the United Methodist Church, Milton Church believes in:
God – God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons.
Jesus – We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus whose life, death and resurrection demonstrate God’s redeeming love.
The Holy Spirit – The Holy Spirit is God’s present activity in our midst. When we sense God’s leading, God’s challenge, or God’s support or comfort, it’s the Holy Spirit at work.
Human Beings – Genesis 1:27 asserts that we’ve been made in the image of the Creator. Like God we have the capacity to love and care, to communicate, and to create.
The Church – The church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.
The Bible – We believe that the Bible is the primary authority for our faith and practice.
God’s Reign – The kingdom or reign of God is both a present reality and future hope.
We recognize the difficulties in the “big tent” philosophy especially related to issues of human sexuality, human rights, immigration, planned parenthood, wealth etc., but we believe it is our unique position that allows us to truly invite all to wrestle with God’s word and how to live out our lives in the way Jesus wants us to do. Here in Milton UMC, we take the authority of Scripture seriously and believe in the historically orthodox beliefs of the interpretation of scripture. However, we recognize the unbelievable width, length, height and depth of the love of Christ who meets us where we are now. We also believe in the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in our worship service. In other words, we aim to be orthodox in theology, liberal in grace, and charismatic in worship.
